Decorated throughout in a soothing colour scheme with a distinctive Caledonian flavour, the flexible, attractive accommodation sleeps 4 (plus one infant). It is suitable for couples, groups of friends and small families alike. There are two bedrooms, and two bathrooms.
Ground floor: Enter through the front door into the bright entrance porch with cushioned window seats overlooking the front garden, and useful coat hooks and shoe/boot storage.
This leads into the sitting room, stylishly furnished with comfortable seating, rocking chair, atmospheric wood burner, dining table and chairs, TV and DVD player, and lots of books and games.
Through the sitting room is the attractive country-style kitchen, fully equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses, cooking equipment, electric oven with ceramic hob, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine and all the usual small electricals. Other provisions include a radio, vacuum cleaner and ironing equipment. There are also some further coat hooks and space for a dog bed. The exterior door from the kitchen exits to a communal courtyard and driveway (not enclosed).
First floor: You emerge onto the airy landing via the staircase ascending from the corner of the sitting room. Off this there is a double bedroom with double bed, clothes storage, hairdryer and TV, and a light, spacious house bathroom with hand basin, WC and bath with hand-held shower attachment.
Second floor: Accessed by a staircase off the first floor landing, you can relax and spread out in the roomy double bedroom suite with a super-king-sized bed (or twin 3 ft. singles on request), wardrobe, drawers, easy chair, hairdryer and TV/DVD. The en suite shower room is fitted with a shower, hand basin and WC.
Heating at the cottage is by a combination of night storage heaters and electric radiators, plus the wood-burning stove for chillier times of the year.
Our outdoor spaces really help Ivy Cottage to stand out from the crowd and, when the weather allows, add an extra dimension to your holiday. The walled, enclosed front garden is a haven for bird life and is the perfect place to sit and relax in the evening as the sun goes down. Even more special is the separate side garden – previous guests have dubbed it the Secret Garden – a lovely private space where you can enjoy a drink, a meal or a convivial barbecue around the outdoor dining table. Close the gate and you can let your dog roam off the lead as you clink glasses and unwind to a symphony of birdsong.
Things you should know:
Babes-in-arms and children aged 4 and over are welcome, but the cottage has a number of features which makes it unsuitable for toddlers and very small children.
A travel cot and a high chair are available, free of charge, on request.
In addition to the double staircase, there’s a deep step down from the front garden path to the front door, two steps in the kitchen, and a small step between the kitchen and sitting room.
Ceilings and doorways are low so tall guests should take extra care. It’s an old building, and the bedroom floors have a noticeable slope.
Mobile telephone reception is patchy at the cottage, which is often the case in rural areas. We think our fabulous Wi-Fi more than compensates!
